I thank everyone who posts reports.
I do love the one-off shots and seeing the different places where everyone goes, but I love the trip reports most.
If you hate mine... Then good news! This one is the first in two, but let me start at the ending.
To be standing on those red rocks...
Just another Wednesday!
Another midweek adventure beckoned. Again the skies were gray, but a lot fresh spring snow had fallen the day before and the hope was to get snowshoes on in a moderate hike.
Rewarded.
The way up the trail is very moderate, deceptive, but still I broke a sweat.
The...
“Why is it always gray and windy on Wednesday for these hikes?” I complained.
“At least you will be up in the mountains. It beats down here,” my coworker replied.
She was right.
This Wednesday edition of the coworker, after work hike, the plan was to climb Neff’s Canyon. It ended up just...
My daughter is on her spring break this week and I decided to take a day off of work so that we could hike up Mount Olympus. Yes, I've posted reports of this hike in the past, but hey it's Mount Olympus!
We arrived at the trailhead at 7:45 am with the temperature hovering around 45 degrees...
Again on a Wednesday after work the coworker group and I hopped in and drove on up Little Cottonwood Canyon. A little later than we wanted and under a flat gray sky.
dwarfed by some pines...
The original intent was to get to Maybird, but we had a few things working against us. Time...
Last night, after work I took off with a couple of coworkers to go for an evening hike and snowshoe.
The Wednesday night hike a couple times a month is becoming a real thing. What a great way to break up the week.
We parked at Tibblefork, hiked a little bit of the road and then cut up the trail...
This was 2 weeks ago. I decided to try to get to the upper reservoir in Bell Canyon, snow be damned. I had never been in the canyon before, and I learned later that that would keep me from getting to my ultimate destination.
It was nice and cold out that morning, but supposed to be in the mid...
[I owe this forum at least one TR - a really cool route I hiked in the Absarokas in August. But since I've been working on that writeup for two months and it still sucks, for now I'll just post a quick-hitter of a trip I did last summer. One might call it a NOT-Epic. Or a Sub-24. Or a...
The thread discussion here https://backcountrypost.com/threads/meet-the-woman-who-knows-bears-ears-best.7166/page-3
Got me thinking about the non-epic... so how about the least epic trip for me this year? If you only read epic, STOP NOW, you will be disappointed. If you want a story that at...
I am almost embarrassed to post this in the backpacking section as it is such a short trip. However, if like me you are seeking a quick overnight trip to get out there before the real snow comes and the fall color fades, this might be a good spot at the moment.
We got away from work a little...
I envy and salute all of you who have been to places so much cooler than myself this year. If you are reading this and haven't checked out those posts, sheesh, read them first!
This mountain that is pretty much my backyard holds plenty of allure, and one thing I love is looking up at some of...
A coworker, Scatman Jr. and I did a day hike to the top of the Pfeifferhorn on Sunday. I hadn't done this hike in four years and the last time I did, there was quite a bit of snow to contend with. I was looking forward to hiking it in dry conditions. The fall weather was absolutely perfect...
This is a bit past due -- I think we did this trip back in August-- but I'm finally got it posted on Howells Outdoors and now to get it on Backcountry Post.
Back in August Chelsea and I took off for our first backpacking adventure in northern Utah. We wanted to start small, but beautiful. We...
I have had too many days at work, mingled with only a few trips, since my last post, so how about a pretty light-hearted trip report- light weight enough I had started to write this in the Micro Trip, but it was my 3 year old's first backpack after all...
Let's start this report at the end...
Summer = mountains! The desert is hot and dry; the mountains are cool and lush. Simple as that.
My buddies, Amanda and Caitlyn, invited me up to the Wasatch Mountains to go on a backpacking trip into the Lone Peak Wilderness. We wanted to check out White Pine Lake and Red Pine Lake -- both...
Went up to Red Pine Lake for the first time. I hiked up Friday afternoon and left Saturday morning. It is a very popular hike as I have read in some other trip reports and saw for myself. It was good for me to get out and there were some nice sights to see. The weather was perfect.
Sunset...
This isn't my usual kind of trip report--kinda a lot of people around--but despite that it was a great hike.
There's a group of geocachers who meet one Sunday a month to hike, usually somewhere around the Salt Lake Valley, and for years I've wanted to join up with them. This past weekend I was...
We headed up to Timpanogos a week ago - 18 July 2015. Camped at the rim of the basin, caught a wild storm and subsequently a wild sunset. There is a lot of indian paintbrush up there right now (or at least a week ago).
The whole trip report is here.
Right on the heels of the recent trip and beautiful report by @Ugly, here's a report of a trip @WillisBodillus and I took up to Timp the very week after. While my pics aren't nearly as spectacular, I hope those of you viewing and reading still find them enjoyable...
Since we both go by Will...
Last week I had a friend in town from Philly. I asked what he was doing Saturday and he said taking an early morning run. I told him jogging through Sandy ain't bad, it sure is not South Philly, but that I had something better.
By 630am we had his rental car parked up at Alta.
The whole area...
