After a longish trip in Dark Canyon in late May, I will have time for a few short trips in Utah in early June. The first is a long single day somewhere near Zion with my daughter. We are both 5.10ish climbers with a fair amount of hiking experience but no canyoneering experience, but we'll have climbing gear. From what I can tell o nthe Zion website, there are no backcountry permits available at all the day we are going to be there. -- but maybe I don't quite understand the rules.
With one day, under those conditions ,what would you suggest we do? I would love to try some canyoneering if we an find a way to do it. If not, we would like a really spectacular hike. Doesn't have to be Zion, but we will be en route from Salt Lake to St. George, and Zion is a pretty good waypoint.
