Guess the spot: Utah Edition

There is a freeway in the photo, but note the long shiny streak? It's Amtrak. Go east a hundred miles or so (guessing on that distance). And note the fog rising from a....

Another clue - there's a "town" just to the left of the photo. And now I'm out of clues. :)

So you’re saying you’re as clueless as me? But for a different reason!
Sorry I’ll stop posting bad dad jokes.

No, you guys are WAY too far west. But that's actually a reasonable guess, given what you're seeing there - an ancient lake bed that stretches a long way (the Western Interior Seaway).

The photo is facing west, maybe more NW. The fog is rising off a river.

Snyder Mesa and overlooking Colorado River, I-70 and the town of Agate?

Here's another clue: you have to cross this mesa to get away from the big hotel. The photo was taken with a telly lens.

Hotel Mesa?

Thank you @Rockskipper, I take it all. :)

@Michael, where I was can only be accessed by driving across the Dolores River crossing, which is impassible much of the year, or coming around through Glade Park on the Grand Junction, CO side. It's called the Dolores Triangle and is pretty empty because of the difficult access, though more people are going in there. It has a wonderful feeling of isolation. There are some You Tubes of crossing the Dolores that are fun, but I came in the other way - was doing some geological mapping in October a few years ago. It's actually one of my fav places. Lots of rattlers, though.
