Bag Night Challenge 2018

The olde Nutbuster trail is tough any time of year but I'm happy to say this was my 44th Nut Hump of the beast---and all done with the Accoutrements of Idiocy---my pack and gear.

I was talking about all the fords of the creek, to add the Nutbuster is just crazy :)

Only for those who didn't quit their day job! ;)

Ha! This! ^

But seriously, we will officially be providing a prize for each this year, and maybe from now on. One prize for regular day job adventurers and one for non-traditional semi-full-time adventurers like @Tipi Walter and @LarryBoy. But you have to post some progress with a photo or two at least a few times throughout the year. Don't just walk in and drop a bomb on us on December 31! Nice rules, eh? ;)

There should be a minimum of a monthly update.

Prizes ?!?! Whaaaat? Ok, now you've got my attention. You never took my plea seriously before :)

I am going to try harder now. But I would like the regular day job category to exclude @Nick because he tries even harder and @IntrepidXJ because he seems to be trying harder than he has ever before and because I have never managed to win this thing before. How's those rules?

I won it a few years ago and there were no prizes, boo

I love the bag night challenge. I've been counting bag nights for years, mainly cause I'm a list kinda guy, but also as a motivator/challenge. Since I had a kid in 2014, I made more of an effort to keep track of my nights and make sure they were going up, not down, and that my kid was getting bag nights of her own. And I've been doing just that: In 2015 I had 47 bag nights (respectable for a new dad, huh?), 2016 I got to 57, last year bumped it up by one to 58 (hey, it's about improvement no matter how small!).

This year, who knows, but I'm ahead of schedule with 20 as of May 1st, including bag nights in six western states already (UT, CO, AZ, NV, CA and NM).

2018 Bag Nights

March: 14 nights
  • Moab - Kane Creek area (4 nights)
  • Virgin River Gorge, AZ (3 nights)
  • Mojave Desert near Searchlight NV (1 night)
  • Mojave Desert near Castle Peaks Nat'l Monument (1 night)
  • Cedar Mesa, UT (1 night)
  • Boulder UT (2 nights)
  • Ruby Horsethief Canyons, CO (2 nights)

April: 6 nights

  • Highline State Park, CO (2 nights)
  • Lower Dolores River, CO (1 night)
  • Upper Dolores River, CO (1 night)
  • Butler Wash, UT (1 night)
  • Chama River, NM (1 night)

Ha! I'm actually currently camped in a super sick spot overlooking a canyon system in northern NM. cell service is too crappy to upload a photo; will do later if I remember. Best site this year by far.

Currently at 52 on the year I believe. 4 in January and all but 7 of the last 55 days.
