Album Your favorite shots from 2015

Beautiful shots Laura. Is that a shot of the Alabama Hills in your first shot?
I spent a lot of time at Convict Lake when I was a kid, thanks for posting these.

Thanks! No, that's the Buttermilks, specifically the climbing area, just west of Bishop. The first two shots were taken on the same morning, from the same hill.

This year was one of my best years ever for backpacking! I WANT MORE! Kinda hard to believe that I did as much backpacking as I did (low compared to some though) since it is also the same year my son was born. Anyway, here are a few pics.

Gorgeous pictures Blake! You forgot to caption them though! How can I say "I'm going to go there!" when I don't know where "there" is?:help:

I'm going for round 2...

There have been so many beautiful mornings, but this one looking out of my tent of the rim on the Escalante in May was particularly cool.
IMG_0595.jpg

We were camped in Iceberg and raced out to The Rincon when the skies started turning crazy colors. I took this while running about 25-30mph through the bay. We stopped and took it in and drove back to camp in the dark. That drive back was truly unforgettable. The water between the walls was pure glass and everything was so dark you could just barely see the way. It was like floating through a dream at 30mph. I'll never forget that. Trip report here.
IMG_5472.jpg

The 'missile test' in the Roost in November. Whatever it was, it was still one of the wildest things I've seen in the night sky. Right up there with the meteor that turned dark to daylight in Nov 2010 (Also caught that on camera).
IMG_9660.jpg

Walking Fiftymile for the second time in October. This hike blew me away. After a 2.5 year gap, 12+ feet of lake silt had been blasted away, leaving a nicely restored and incredibly beautiful canyon. Imagine this with cottonwoods and you can just start to get an idea of what was lost behind Glen Canyon Dam. This would normally be under almost 100 feet of water.
IMG_8367.jpg

And last, the fantastic moonrise and sunset I witnessed from my campsite at the Tuweep Campground near the Toroweap Overlook in the Grand Canyon. Unforgettable. (Trip report here)

Very nice Nick. I would sure like to see the meteor shot too.

You all have such great shots, so many great places, and some great reports, that it is pushing me to heal up my achilles, so I can get out more next year. Thanks for filling my lunch hours with reports worth reading.

Still, despite a relatively lightweight year where I was more front country than backcountry, here are some photos to share.

It was difficult all year to top the late winter trip to Lake Blanche. Only coyotes and cold air for company this night.

Then in April, right when the rains started their nonstop pelting of Utah, I spent a few days with the three oldest kids in Capitol Reef. The day in Spring canyon was the only day we had more sun than rain.

This one of sunrise from Timp felt like backcountry with a goat grazing a dozen yards away... at least until the rising sun brought a cheer up from the peak behind me.

22908366255_644a9bd2d7_h.jpg 2015 turned out to be a bad year for me. Among other things, my mom passed away on October 13th. Consequently, I didn't get to the backcountry very much. So, in light of that, here's toasting for a better 2016!

Great! I love the night time picture of Sundial Peak.

This year I was lucky enough to get out for two 2 week trips. Southern Utah in the spring and Colorado in the fall. The Colorado trip was especially meaningful to me for 2 reasons. First off it was my first time in Colorado and secondly it was with my parents who flew in from my native Denmark. Neither of them can do the long hikes anymore, but because of my Jeep and all the trip reports here on BCP I was able to piece together a wonderful trip none of us will forget.
Utah first.. Ran Hells Revenge in Moab.
