Aren’t there trails in Hayden Valley? Looks to me like it’s legal if you stay on the trail.

ETA if I’d known I was doing all this work just for one lousy chocolate bar. I would’ve gone to the ice cream shop instead.

There is only one trail in Hayden Valley and it is the Mary Mountain Trail. The entire valley is Scatman's playground!

What would you like instead of a Chocolonely?

Human genome researchers have made a major breakthrough in what some unknown genes actually do. It was found that one particular gene, BCP.1 (which made one want to wander in the backcountry), when paired with gene SCOT.1 (which made one want to wear a kilt), resulted in one feeling naked in the backcountry if not clothed in a kilt. And things got even more interesting (or weird in nonscientific nomenclature) when these two genes accompanied gene MASO.1, resulting in the inheritor wanting to wander around in thick foliage in the backcountry wearing a kilt.

What the scientists will now do with their findings is not clear, but some think an article in Nature is forthcoming, as well as in Psychology Today.

Skipper, this might be your best post yet.

How did they extract this said genetic material?

You forgot about the genes DRKBER.1 and GRIZBER.1. The first gives one an affinity for dark beers, particularly Porters and Stouts, and an extreme disregard for IPAs. DRKBER.1 paired with the previously mentioned SCOT.1 will allow for the consumption of Scottish ales too.

The GRIZBER.1 allows the kilted one to mingle amongst Ursus arctos horribilis in the heart of the GYE, and oddly enough an appreciation for the movie Jeremiah Johnson.

This last trip up Specimen Creek got out of hand pretty quickly, but I still have my Riddle Lake hike that I have to post first.

Let me leave you with more of the struggle to get up the mountain, or in this case down the same hill. :D

I closed my laptop with that picture on the screen, went into town for a couple of hours, then came back and unwittingly and innocently opened my laptop. I thought for a minute that someone had hacked my computer. It was very traumatic.

You need to download that image and use it as your background image on your laptop. :D

Add this one too and put your background on slideshow. :) I lost my pants on the way to the cooking area - 22 degrees out on our first morning. The reason they fell down was the heavy Canon PowerShot G10 that was in the pocket, which caused them to slowly work their way down to my ankles on my way to the eating area from my tent. I told you this trip got out of hand pretty quickly. :)

Good thing one of those grizzlies didn’t show up about then. Oh wait you’ve got that special gene that allows you to hang out with them. Isn’t that the one called DELUSNL.1?

No, it is the GRIZBER.1 gene that lets me chill with the grizz, the DELUSNL.1 gene allows me to follow Bob up or down one of his horse trails without questioning my sanity.

You got that slide show going yet? :scatman: Be sure and add this one to it. I call it the Scat Dance. I was in the groove.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That slideshow crashed my computer. It actually caught on fire and I had to call the fire department. I’m posting this from my phone in a homeless shelter because my place has so much smoke damage it’s uninhabitable. But it’s all good because I still have my tent and I know your address.

You're always welcome Skipper. If you can handle the crazy cats and the slightly off-kilter guy in the kilt you should be okay. Notice what I did there? :)

Your son is quite a talented artist. I know exactly what I am looking at in his drawing. . . bleached thermal ground, the boardwalk, sunny skies, hot springs, an erupting geyser, and a happy family. Just as good as the Upper Geyser Basin Webcam!

Are you the guy in the green shirt? It kind of looks like you. :)

I might have to stop and get some hot dogs for dinner.

Ein Prosit @TractorDoc , @Bob , @Rockskipper , @wsp_scott , @Ugly , @b.stark ,@Dreamer and the rest of the BCPers!

Scatmann ist für einen Tag Deutscher!

Spent this afternoon up at Snowbird enjoying Oktoberfest. Sheila and I enjoyed lunch, good beer and music before heading out to look at the fall colors.

A Bavarian bratwurst, an elk and cheddar bratwurst, German Potato Salad, and red cabbage. Dessert is a piece of black forest cake.

And an Oktoberfest Black Bier to wash it all down.

@Rockskipper, you might have to play one of these horns in the backcountry for me as I clear the Howard Eaton Trail.

Great music too!

Rumor has it that there might be a video of Scatman doing the chicken dance. o_O That could fetch a lot on the black market! :)

A great crowd enjoyed a Sunday up the canyon.

And let me leave you with a song (standard) the band played that will lift everyone's spirits.

There's a garden, what a garden
Only happy faces bloom there
And there's never any room there
For a worry or a gloom there

Oh there's music and there's dancing
And a lot of sweet romancing
When they play the polka
They all get in the swing

Every time they hear that oom-pa-pa
Everybody feels so tra-la-la
They want to throw their cares away
They all go lah-de-ah-de-ay

Then they hear a rumble on the floor, the floor
It's the big surprise they're waiting for
And all the couples form a ring
For miles around you'll hear them sing...

Roll out the barrel, we'll have a barrel of fun
Roll out the barrel, we've got the blues on the run
Zing boom tararrel, ring out a song of good cheer
Now's the time to roll the barrel, for the gang's all here

Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
Then they hear a rumble on the floor-or-or-or
It's the big surprise they're waiting for
And all the couples they form a ring
For miles around you'll hear them sing

Drree mopado theedo da-da-da-da
Roll it out, roll it out, roll out the barrel
Da-da-da da-da da-da da-da-da-da-da
Sing a song of good cheer
'Cause the whole gang is here
Roll it out, roll it out
Let's do the beer barrel polka
