The Before/After thread

I posted it in the Uintas thread, and meant to duplicate it here. I did take my whole family including our one year old up to the Uintas for a 5 mile backpacking loop. Here's my one shot to represent the trip and tease the TR to come.

Well no hike this weekend, I decided it was more important to unpacked and organized in my new place.

I did get a short run in on the trail behind my new place.

Where IS your new place? Colorado Springs?

The Tushars blew me away. Exceeded expectations. Pictures aren't great (sorry, you can have your money back), but it was a terrific trip.

It did for me too many years ago. And it is so accessible. You can drive and camp high right under the peaks. Makes a weekend climb easy. Haven't backpacked there. Yet.

Yes, I am in the Springs. I'm loving it so far. I think I am finally getting acclimatized. I was able to get a 5 mile run in tonight without gasping for breath. The mountains still kick my butt. Heading out tomorrow to Red Rock Canyon for some day hiking.

I decided on my "before" while at work on Friday, so I'll break the rules and post the "after" without posting a "before". Sorry VH.

60% off-trail loop in the Leidy Peak area. Everything above 11k was amazing and wonderful. Big views, mostly easy walking, little lingering snow. Everything below 11k was an outright jungle. Bogs, marshes, wet feet, carnivorous mosquitos. Just about got hit by lightning atop Marsh Peak. Moved in extremely quickly and without warning. Great hike though.

By the way, the first section along the ridge between Leidy Peak and Chipeta Lake should really become the unofficial Highline Trail for those who are comfortable with off-trail travel. Much more scenic, and truer to the spirit of of the Highline than the lower forest walk. As a matter of fact, I'm very confident that the entire ridge between Gabbro and North Pole passes is doable with a minimum of difficulty. I'd recommend it to any experienced hiker who's looking to improve on an already-great hike.

I forgot to do a before for this one, partly because it wasn't a super backcountry weekend.

Spent the weekend in my favorite area, with family at my grandparents' cabin near Cameron, MT by the Madison River. Swam in a cold lake, walked in the woods, got rained on, and admired the beauty of the place.

Before: Headed up to Hayden pass, over into Middle Basin. It will be my first trip away from my newborn. I'm mostly hoping that I can avoid the afternoon t-storms. If it's crazy weather, I'll opt for something else.

I'll be in the same neighborhood starting out....

BEFORE: Taking the family for a night somewhere around Ruth Lake for one final little retreat before the kids start school next week.

w00t! That gully is the shiz. Your the only one that has named it AFAIK. Well done. Now to walk through and down to Xmas meadows....

Before: Excited for my first trip to the wind rivers tomorrow. Starting and ending at Elkhart park trailhead so I can camp at the lovely island lake and explore the beautiful titcomb basin.

Nice, Danger! We will be a bit north of you in the glacial terrain. Stay safe. Pray for a high pressure (in case praying might help) and no new fires.

Be sure to go high in the Basin and keep an eye out for reflection shots on the way up. If you have time head up the basin below Indian Pass and Ellingwood peak. There are a few good camps on the east side of Island lake if things are crowded.
