The Before/After thread

8 years ago I did the nols wfa course. i highly recommend it. should do it again myself sometime.

Before: Hoping to nail my first successful solo backpacking overnighter tomorrow-Saturday. First attempt (at Lake Blanche) failed because I couldn't find a place to stake out my Tarptent, and I was only 3.5 miles from the trailhead, so I decided to bail. This time, I've planned better, and the location will be more remote, just outside of Capitol Reef. IMG_20180503_185646.jpg

That Tantalus Flats and Pleasant Creek at the bottom?
Yes to Tantalus Flats, and the creek in the bottom photo is Tantalus Creek. Pleasant Creek is just behind the trees in the top photo. Makes for some great walking!

After weeks with my ankle in a boot and PT and chiro I finally have the green light to hit the trail.

It’ll be a game time decision based on the forecast but i’ll either be starting the 102 miles of the AT through Shenandoah NP in VA or hit the Presidential Range in the White Mountains in NH. They’re 12 hours and 750 miles apart but i’ll be at one of them.

Boot came off about 5 weeks ago Art. Since then PT 3x week for acute rehab of the ankle and chiro 2x per week to work on the underlying postural imbalance in my gait. It was just a grade 2 sprain, not a full rupture or bone fracture. It’s looking more likely I’ll be heading north though, not south, so that section through SNP will have to wait a few weeks.

Ended up in the White Mountains.
