FWIW, Cataloochee is way better than the more famous Cades Cove since it is on the NC side of the park which means a long way from Gatlinburg and the tourist crowds. I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area.

Interesting story...a lot of the descendants of the original settlers remained in the valley until the government ran them out in order to establish the national park.
