    Mojave National Preserve

I just used the designation for the unnamed ("UN") high point that are on the topos. I forget what the "T" is for in usgs maps. Feel like I knew at one time, but can;t remember now. And unable to find any remotely useful info online regarding that designation. Ima keep searching though, I'm...

    Mojave National Preserve

I love autumn in the Mojave, warm days & chilly nights. And no more Mojave Greens to look out for ! So I headed into the MNP to camp and hike near the cinder cones, Club peak (NUB bm) area. Made it to a camp late afternoon and took off up Button Mountain, one of said cinder cone remnants, and...

    Delamar Mountains. Again.

If it wasn't so nice I wouldn't go. But this is one of my favorite areas in all the Mojave (?). Actually, the range's crest forms part of the Great Basin Divide. I started on Kane springs road, then the next left after Willow Springs turn off I took an unnamed good dirt, to rough and rocky...

    Delamar Mountains

The valley at the north terminus of that canyon is lovely. was there recently but hiked the benches east, south towards un5638 again, but viewed from the north. Wllow spring was seeping, and I see a good number of springs on the tops's, but have no idea about relaibility. I suspect it depends...

    Delamar Mountains

Days are still a little warm at their peak, but the hiking is ok. So Meadow Valley and the Delamar mountains were my target. And why did I think a .25 tank of gas would get me there and back enough for a refuel ? And not even close to the 1st time... Wake-up McFly ! But I just wanna hike ! screw...

    Lake Mead NRA

Hiking in the lower Mojave has come a little early this year, so I headed out to Malpais Flattop Mesa. Had a very windy night, rocking the truck in 30mph or so gusts. Wonderful ! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope...

    Close Calls

Years ago in the Ozarks I was waterfall hunting off trail and came across a nice one. 50' or so, from a curved rim above down onto scattered, head sized rocks. I took a lunch at the top, being wary of the edge because the rock was snot slick in places, staying a good 10' back from the lip on dry...

    Album Black & White

Been on a big B&W binge lately, going thru the archives and seeing what works. Here's some impressionistic takes. Crypto Wet, mossy nook in the Ozarks Mossy North Cascades And a realistic Butler Wash on the winter solstice

    Clover Mountains

North of Tule Desert lay the Clover mountains, in the transition zone of the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin. The Tule Desert itself contains a very nice Joshua Tree forest, and has nice views of surrounding peaks and ridges. Dirt roads crisscross the Tule giving access to any number of hikes...

Album Up Close and Personal -- Photos Focused on the Details

Going up Dry bm. This bench was about 10' wide and 50'(+?) long and was covered in these. I couldn't take a step without touching petrified coral(?)

Snowy Miracle on The Strip, Oh Yeah and Valley of Fire

It has been a VERY wet year so far, 5"+ of rain when our yearly average is ~4". And 2018 was just under 2" for the year. Snowed like 3 times? 4? so far. It should be quite the bloom fest this year.
