Last week Rick got a warning from a Rattlesnake on a very warm sunny day. First time I have seen one, it was partly under a rock just next to the path we were on. Temperatures have since dropped substantially, so hopefully we wont encounter another one!

Your first rattler? Never would have guessed as active as you are. We have seen so many species that we have lost count. Most don’t even rattle but some surly do and blacktails always seem to be in a cranky mood.

My P&S didn't do well with the distance, but I got to see 4 bighorns at Capitol Reef Wednesday(!).
I had not seen any since 2011, and it really capped off the final hike of my trip

This little guy jumped across my path whilst I was walking the field yesterday. I'd never seen a little critter with such a long tail -- a little web research suggests he/she is a Meadow Jumping Mouse.

Nice shot! I still have never seen a badger in the backcountry. I did see a roadside one while driving to the Toiyabes in Nevada a couple of years ago though.
