Lightning trigger? Timed exposure? Or just lucky? I doubt it's luck.

It just means you seem to be a fair weather hotspot. Wherever you go, it's sunny, so if I go where you're at, I'll be in good weather.
That last photo is pretty dramatic. We used to go flood chasing when I lived in Moab - wait a few minutes after a big rain, then drive down the river canyon to look for waterfalls.
I see. I only go in the summer so fair weather is the last thing I want. I wind up sitting in the shade. When it's cloudy I can at least wander around.

Thank you. I've been reading about it. What I've come up with was 10-11 second exposures which would work out in the back country but probably not in city lights. I plan on doing a lot of practice in the next two months.Lots of luck. I set my camera to take bursts of five second exposure shots. 10 shots per (max my camera would do.) I'd press the button, let the camera do its thing, and hope lightning flashed. Took maybe 70 pictures for five with lightning.

Check this out:
I. Love. It! I've had a strong desire to take my GoPro out and timelapse monsoonal stuff this past couple weeks and to flood chase. I'd love to take footage like this. My GoPro auto-exposes though, so I'm not sure what I can get as conditions darken.
Well, then I should post MY schedule and you can follow me around.
That would be great but I've been hired to attend several parades and outdoor family reunions to keep the clouds away.
Nice Pic! Put it in both places...I debated between this thread or B&W... but this was definitely a shot of the clearing storm clouds... a blue hour 10s exposure that also just happened to look good in B&W.
