Who are these people, and why do they keep popping up on our fall desert trips?

Actually, unlike the totally by chance encounters of the two previous Octobers, we made plans to meet up and enjoyed four great days of camping and hiking together!

Four weeks down and two more weeks to go. The knee is still swollen and painful, though not as painful as it was after surgery, or even two weeks ago. I'm still not allowed to bend my knee more than 100 degrees, but I have been riding the stationary bike daily, usually somewhere between 30 and 50 minutes in the easiest gear which offers almost no resistance. I'm looking forward to being able to walk normally again.

Two more weeks!

Gotta get in shape fast..........I sent you all those routes to review and pick from......

It's amazing how fast I've gotten out of shape since the surgery. :(

You can bend and are free of the brace? those are good things. This prolonged good weather means you can crutch around without having to worry about ice or snow too.

We’re so far behind with photos! But we had a great time hiking in the desert with @SteveR and Jo. Followed by a great time with @Ugly and kids in Boulder! Followed by a great time hiking with our Oregon friends! And we also caught up with @desertvic at dinner at the Outfitters. Two very busy weeks!

Well, it's time for a knee update! I'm sure everyone is just dying to know. :)

I saw the surgeon last Friday morning and he allowed me to start walking on my right leg again with the assistance of two crutches through the weekend. Today (Monday), I have lost one crutch and can walk with one crutch for the next week. After that, I am good to ditch the crutches once and for all.

He told me that my knee looked good and that my range of motion is extremely good. I can start adding a little more resistance to the stationary bike now, and I can lower the seat back to where it is comfortable for me to spin. He told me it would probably take three or four months for the swelling to completely go away, and that I'd have some up days and some down days as far as knee pain was concerned as it adjusts to my body weight. He also told me that I could start doing some light hiking in the foothills by mid-February, and then some more aggressive hikes by mid-March. I'll be in physical therapy at least until mid-March to strengthen the knee. Oh, and he also mentioned no squatting for four months. Also after this week I'll be able to drive again.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

My knee was pretty painful after my first day (last Friday) of walking with the two crutches. When I was sitting at rest the knee would just ache and little jolts of pain would run through my knee. It hurt bad enough that I could really get to sleep Friday night. Things did improve a bit on Saturday and again on Sunday, so hopefully I am heading in the right direction.

Fantastic news!
I mean, I am sure the swelling and the healing pain sucks, and you probably will feel some arthritis over the years :) , but you are back at it! and soon you will be back on the trails.

I sure hope so. Time will tell.

Knee update #4.

I have lost the one crutch and can now walk. I'm not allowed at this time to do anything that would twist my right knee. Hopefully being able to twist on it will come in a few weeks. I can walk straight ahead, and I guess I could walk straight backwards if I were coordinated enough. :) I walked to the end of the block and then back this afternoon which seemed like a major accomplishment.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Okay @Rockskipper, what camera took these pics? Hint: It's not a point-and-shoot. :)
