and not to be outdone ... his little brother holding his trophy after his 6u team won a tournament. He and our t-ball playing granddaughter are the same age.

At Jacob Hamblin Arch. For the record, I'm ditching the brown shirt after this, to me it makes me look like a giant turd-man when combined with my usual earth-toned hiking pants.

So there I am, driving down Highway 95 past Hite and on into North Wash. We'd gotten off the river much later than I'd normally like and we were headed for a very late arrival back in SLC after spending 5 days rafting the San Juan. As we came around a bend in North Wash, we see someone hitchhiking on the other side of the road. Strange, I thought. But as I flew by, I realized I recognized this person. It was @Jammer! I'd just had lunch with him before he started his hike over a month ago!

We pulled over to find out he had just come down the cliffs south of North Wash and topped off his water in North Wash Lake (abandoned arm of Lake Powell). He'd been trying to hitch 6 miles down Hwy 95 to the turnoff toward the Sundance Trail with no luck to avoid walking the highway through all the bridge crossings. He was just about to give up and start walking the road when we came by. We picked him up and backtracked back to Hite where we loaded him up with fresh, clean water and as many snacks as he would take. He was 34 days into his hike with another 12 or so to go to get to Arches. I think he said that would be 10 or so days longer than he planned, but he was feeling good and ready to pound out some more miles.

Great running into you out there @Jammer!
