Sage is part heeler and I am super impressed with the breed. I've always had dogs like pits, dobe's, etc. and I'm in love with having a cattle type dog. They'll herd other dogs and small people though...
 
Mya is Heeler mixed with some German Short Haired pointer. She is very obedient, very eager to please. The Pointer in her keeps her a bit more rangey than I'd like, meaning she keeps a further distance than I'd prefer. She always comes back, and she always knows where I'm at. I've taken her backpacking a few times, and she was very trail worthy. I'd highly recommend the bread, and even more so when mixed.

@Nick I think I'm pretty close to making the plunge . . . are any of your dogs available? I ask because it would really be nice to have a dog that has trail experience. How have you found your Bullies to be on the trail?

The things that are most important to me are1. House trained2. Will stay close when we're in public 3. Can be taught new things
 
The only one we have that is up for adoption is Tahoe the lab from the previous page in this thread. She's a good girl but I'm not sure she's what you're looking for. I think she'd be a good hiker, but she's a little fearful and the one time she ended up out in the front yard without a leash, she took off into the neighborhood. I chased her down and got her to chase me back, and I'm sure she could be trained to be better on the trail, but it would definitely take some work. And from what you've told me about what you're looking for and your past experience, she might be a little too 'dog like'. We love her but she's just so non-stop that she even wears on my wife and I sometimes. I think we're just not 'lab people'.

@Nick I like how CAWS does training with the dog & owner. A good portion of their dogs seem to be house & crate trained which is a big plus. I think that's the route I'll end up going. Thanks!
 
Yep, that training refund/deposit thing is awesome for human and doggy alike. I'm not sure, but I think most, if not all of their dogs are in foster homes too which is really helpful for preparing dogs for life in your home.
 
Good looking pups! We have a foster right now that I think is a german shorthair and maybe lab mix. Looks a lot like Oakley. Welcome to BCP!
