Album The dogs of backcountrypost.com

It's been a long search to found the perfect fit for our family. Meet Lucy. She arrived Sunday from Kentucky via a 2 day recue shuttle that transported dogs from Kentucky to as far north as Ontario Canada. She won our dog Joey over pretty much instantly. She's also super respectful of our cat. She's a 1.5 yr old 72 lb, German Shepherd, Lab mix. Can't wait to get her out hiking and camping. Going to start with some dayhikes and work her way up to overnights, then eventually longer backpacking trips. Also thinking of selling the kayaks to make room for a canoe that can hold both dogs.

Joey up top, Lucy below.

Congrats to all of you!

This was our first real hike and he did great. I don't know what he will be able to do in the way of mileage. We did 5 miles yesterday and i carried him for about a mile. I worried about him overdoing. They say little dogs will push themselves too far. Next weekend owe are going to do our first overnight at a campground to see who that goes :)

Your dog id beautiful.

Super cute, @kimbur96 ! How does a tiny fellow like that do on the trail?

Here's Skotti on a cold fall morning at camp:

Skotti is all growed up!

What I notice: paper-towel, floorless tent: ultralighters; dot shoe tracks: climbers; dog in sleeping bag: dog freeze-baby and dog loving owners; no tent stakes, no tent poles: minimalists; specialized backcountry bicycles: hardcore. Kudos Jan!

Thought I'd introduce my hiking companion: this is Charlie, who gets all excited whenever I start loading a backpack and who goes crazy when he hears the word "hike":

Always in the lead, and always the first to the top:

And always happy, which is the best thing about having a dog along:

Hi Charlie, what breed are you? Do you know? Sounds like you are a valuable companion.
