Snow, Snow and more Snow

windows are 6 feet tall, 3 feet off ground...... 4 to 5 on the roof. :)

We will be fine late June ... But yes, my busy schedule I have some time in July as well... Lol

June 20

I will also keep an eye out for any updates from you @regehr. My plan is to be in the maze area March 8-13th. I knew I was pushing my luck going in this early on a winter like we have had this year!

@RyanP If I make it down there I'll send you any info on the roads as well.
So @CodyL and @regehr--did either of you try out the road from Hite? I called the Hans Flat station and they said they didn't know the current conditions, but suspected a lot of mud.

argh, no, sorry, I didn't have time to do that, we ended up with a bit of vehicle trouble.

but I can say for sure that as of last Friday the road along the west side of the DD that heads north from highway 95 was entirely free of mud and snow. the lowest snow I could find in that area is just below the surface level of the Block and other top-level mesas in that area. so it's possible the Hite/Maze road is OK, at least for a ways.

Thanks! I'll see if Cody or the rangers have any updates from this week; if not, I'll likely just switch to my Plan B that doesn't involve a long dirt road...

Sorry Ryan. We had to push our trip back. We were coming in from Highway 24. Ranger at Hans Flat that I really trust said it was extremely sloppy and recommended chains. Said there was snow at the ranger station and it was warming up and getting more sloppy. Tried Tex's Jet boat but they weren't running yet.

Wet, sloppy roads are not my idea of fun- so we pushed until next month. Hope you have better luck with the weather.

Thanks! Sounds like I'll either postpone the trip entirely, or go somewhere with easier access.

Now the thing is that with ALL of this snow, it will mean a good runoff season and a summer with swarms and more swarms of mosquitoes.

This from the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument Connection Facebook Group:

"Please do not attempt to access Paria Canyon or Buckskin Gulch currently. I work with the BLM and reports indicate that current flow in the Paria Canyon is shoulder deep near the Buckskin Confluence; Buckskin is likely substantially deeper. Conditions are extremely hazardous due to rain and snow in the area and continuing active weather patterns. The river basin includes areas such as Bryce Canyon which have high snowpacks and are receiving additional precipitation currently. Permit holders should be receiving an email in the next few days regarding these conditions. "

I have never seen so much snow on our Maunas here in Hawai'i:
Mauna Kea in the foreground, snowy Mauna Loa in the back.
Taken from the plane to Honolulu

Sad ...... And preventable
I guess two weeks of lots of rain and snow was no indication for them not to go in...
