Hello from Ohio

Red River gorge in Kentucky is beautiful, but can be busy in the summer. Zaleski state forest & Wayne National forest are the top spots in Ohio. I’ve been meaning to get up to pictured rocks to backpack. Have you ever done that trail?

Welcome! I grew up in the midwest and lived the first nearly 10 years of my life in Richmond, Indiana, right next to the Ohio border. Looking forward to seeing your photos and trips from the Rockies and from back in the midwest.

We enjoyed Red River Gorge in October a few years back. Thanks for letting me know about Zaleski and Wayne - I'll check those out.

YES, we loved hiking Pictured Rocks! Here's my trip report if you ever decide to head up there. Campsites need to be reserved in advance and may be hard to come by if you don't try early.

Nice! I should have some great pics, in the next few weeks. Will be in Colorado, from 6/21-7/12. Plan to post a few trip reports :)

Thanks for the heads up! Ideally, I’d love to hike that some time in October

Fall color would be beautiful, as there are lots of hardwoods. In the UP, I'd guess early October is best, and the nights will probably be chilly. I just found this site with beautiful photos!

Wow! Those pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing! Any other good trips in Michigan?

Yes, we've enjoyed a few others.

1) Porcupine Mountains State Park - also in the UP. It has some similarities to Pictured Rocks but some differences. Here's a trip report. This would be gorgeous in the fall; big views with tons of hardwoods. If you're interested in learning more, don't hesitate to reach out. I liked our sites but it could have been done in fewer nights and have thoughts about campsites/routes that would be great but are slightly different from what we did.

2) Isle Royale National Park - here's a trip report for that. It's in the middle of Lake Superior and feels very wild. We loved it!

3) Manistee River Loop - in mid-May, we did this short trip (2 nights but could have even been 1 if we had needed) in the lower peninsula near Cadillac. It was lovely. I haven't made a TR for that but will enjoy revisiting my photos and can do that soon. In the meantime, here's info if you're interested.
