Guess the spot

Now another clue, this is in an area that was burned as one can tell, in the 1988 Yellowstone fires. But the cabin was able to be saved by the authorities.

Now since no one has guessed, do think will reveal where this cabin is located with posting another photo which is a very favorite place of mine.

Now this cabin is located in the Thorofare River drainage in the Teton Wilderness. It is actually located right close to where the Thorofare Creek / River Trail meets up with the Pass Creek Trail. From the Thorofare River Trail, It is located actually only like 100 to 200 yards to the North of the trail. But there is a rise in the land in between which prevents one viewing this cabin from this trail. From the Pass Creek Trail, it would be located maybe 200 to 300 yards to the left or West of the Pass Creek Trail if looking to the North up the drainage.

I heard about this cabin years ago in a book on this area written by Ralph Maughen. In the early 1900's, at least around the 20s or 30s do believe, there was a guy who would spend all winters back in this country roaming and trapping. Have forgotten his name. This was one of his cabins do believe. He had other cabins back in these wilds also. Toward the end of his life he had a place along the South Fork of the Shoshone. But he was unhappy for he missed his time in the mountains. Some years ago the Forest Service used this old cabin to house some of their trail maintenance volunteers when they would be in this area. During the 1988 fires that ran thru here, the firefighters took steps to protect this old cabin from burning up.

It is interesting to me that this cabin is actually not that far at all from the nearby trails which do get quite a bit of use thru the summer. But how many people go right on by not knowing this old cabin exists right nearby. Think will post a thread on here BCP on all the old backcountry cabins I know about here in the Absarokas.

Now will be posting another photo, hopefully soooo much easier for everyone.

Okay here is a new photo for everyone, hopefully much easier. This is a very favorite place of mine and have been here many a time. Have also had some extremely close encounters with Grizzlies here and in the nearby area also.
