hmm... the cliff line in the background seems key. the light layer near the top maybe rules out the Straight Cliffs? the light layer + some possible moenkopi/entrada in the foreground makes it feel like the Hanksville area but that's all I've got
You're thinking correctly. Because it's pretty generic looking unless you've been there, I'll add that this is just probably a half mile or less outside a national park boundary.

well, it does't feel like Canyonlands to me, is this on the Capitol Reef side?

Definitely not Canyonlands side. This is a not-so-stunning approach to a cool spot. We we were walking away from it at this point though.

aha... is it Bloody Hands Gap? I've not been but this is how I envision the route based on checking it out in GE

I think that's likely in the background, so it's yours. We had exited Burro Wash and were headed back to the car!
 
ok, the peak with this feature at the top doesn't have a formal name, but what do most people call it?
