It happened late afternoon, my wife and friends drove back, found a B&B and phoned AAA.
I stayed in the car for the night. They all turned up early next morning.

With an Alamo rental car you are not supposed to be there. We had to pay for it this was back in 2004 and they charged $330 which, regarding they he had to travel, we thought was a bargain. keep guessing, here is another one.

We just came down the Burr Trail, after about 1 km/0,6 of a mile, there is a tank under the road where the water collects. We were told that every year a couple of people are caught in that mud, so beware everybody when you go there when it has rained!
Take into account that our rescuer came all the way from Loa, so he had to drive via Torrey, Boulder mountain, Long Canyon and the Burr Trail switchbacks + all the way back, i think $330 was very reasonable.

You probably would be charged two or three times that these days. But don't forget, you're not stuck until you go for help.

No, go way south, or southeast is more like it. The mountain to the left of it is the highest in the range.

That’s why you don’t tell them it’s an unpaved road. Just tell them it’s a county road. The person driving the tow truck usually won’t care.
