Bears Ears National Monument

Yep. Anything......

I Wouldn't believe anything the NYT puts out.
Well, if you wouldn't believe the NYT, what about the multiple other news outlets, from nationally known to tiny regional rags, reporting the same story? (Which is more on national monuments than national parks, though. Unless there's another memo.) A simple online search reveals many sources discussing it.

Bob,

You rock but let's see how it plays out. Despite all the talk about fake news I actually track those types of issues and the NYT is one of the most accurate. Not perfect but accurate in most cases.

Hehe..... A lot if leeway in most accurate ..... Giving the biased news from everyone nowdays. Used to be just the news was reported with NO personal ibjection

I have a bridge to sell....
Thanks, but I already have a couple I bought that I need to go check out. And next on my to-buy list is that guy who has a bunch of land at the bottom of Lake Powell who's telling me it's going to be drained soon and I should buy the land now while it's still cheap.

"Used to be just the news was reported with NO personal ibjection" If you believe this, I have a bridge to sell you.

SALT LAKE CITY — The White House announced Friday that President Donald Trump will come to Utah in December for his official announcement on changes to Bears Ears and Grand Staircase national monuments.

Earlier Friday, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said the president called him to say that he will make reductions to both monuments.

Hatch also said Trump will modify the Grand Staircase to allow coal mining in the Kaiparowits Plateau.

It'll be at least two years before this is official, likely by the Court.

I'm not sure that Trump has the power to do this. I think it actually takes an act of Congress.

The legal authority is unclear, hence why the courts will ultimately decide this issue.

The only thing is - presidents have reduced national monument borders in the past - albeit without a challenge in court - so in some ways, precedent of action has already been established.

If the court were to decide that a reduction is illegal given the way the law is written (which I think they should, in this non-lawyer's humble opinion), what would happen to all those monuments which were illegally reduced years ago? Interesting questions to think about...
