No, not a GoPro this time.

Brown Betty is class 3. The thing that gets your attention down there is that this is the begining of Cataract. On a good snow year it runs at 50000+ for weeks, and more than half of the private oar boats don't make it through Big Drop 2 right side up at those flows. It is raging and surging, dark brown and full of wood, creating and destroying beaches overnight.

To quote an old book: “For years men have marvelled at the Grand and feared Cataract.”

Thanks for the great TR! You imagine and execute such creative routes. Inspiring.

What a trip!
I'm particularly interested in day 3.
I read entering Jasper canyon is prohibited, but I suppose the hike on the ridge is no problem...or is it?
Do you remember where the best spots of this day were?

Thanks for your question! The whole ridge is quite nice, and not within the restricted area. Getting on it, using our GPS track, provides a quick access from the big limestone spring/camp in Water Canyon. Starting at Chimney Rock would be even simpler, I think. Haven't done this, thou.

Good luck!
