Late season huckleberries and some kind of fungus I can't ID...


A nail stuck in a tree 2 hours deep in the woods.... Always makes me wonder who and why when I'm in the middle of nowhere and stumble across stuff like this.

A giant alien moth looming behind that tree?



Nope. Just a Limenitis arthemis astyanax. It was hanging out on the mini tree like foliage -- maybe due to the roughed up right wing tip? He/She maneuvered around before I could get a butterfly-in-focus shot whilst behind the "tree."

Several Yellowstone Close-Ups.

This bleached root segment caught my eye done in by spring runoff.



The hot spring runoff channels are always a full palette of colors, shapes, and textures.



I have an odd fascination with Mud Pots. I could sit and watch them bubble up all day. The other people that shared my fascination when I visited were all likely under the age of 10.
