When you kick the bucket (probably with the next ghost pepper) be sure to donate your body to science so they can figure out the evolutionary path it took for a human to develop an asbestos lining of the mouth and gastrointestinal tract. Might save a life or two.

Probably right about the next ghost pepper. Next year I may have to try the Trinidad Scorpion. Pepper X is the hottest one now, but I have yet to see it at the farmers' market that I go to.

The lining of my mouth and throat were affected, my stomach not so much. The worst part for me anyway is it sets my tongue on fire. It feels like my tongue is actually sweating. Also, my nose began running uncontrollably. Symptoms were pretty intense for about 10 minutes, but then calmed down. After 30 minutes, I was back to normal, whatever that is. :D Usually I start hiccupping uncontrollably, but this time that didn't happen.

Can’t find the backcountry vehicle thread… but what are the odds we run into @SteveR and his wife in the desert? On their first day after driving down from Canada? Two years in a row on the first day? Different locations? You would think the odds are very low- but no! We couldn’t even plan it, if we tried :roflmao: . So we had pizza at the Escalante Outfitters yesterday evening.

Have you checked your vehicle for a tracker? LOL

I'm sorry that I have not done a trip report in two years. I think it is because I haven't had a story to tell. Maybe I will try to come up with an idea over the winter, as I have hiked 290 miles in Glacier NP in those two years. I made an extra trip to Glacier the last weekend of September. The obsession to hike trails that require a ford of the Middle Fork of the Flathead was too strong. @Jeffrey Chandler was able to join me. Most of these pictures are in the Coal Creek drainage and Mt. St. Nicholas.

290 miles???...I'm certain there are some good stories and pictures to share!

This gentleman's name is Gordon Blair and he is 81 years old. I ran into him today on my Mount Van Cott Loop hike. He told me that he used to do Van Cott every day, but now that age has crept up on him, he only does it twice a week now. I actually met him once before on Van Cott, maybe two or three years ago when he was still in his late seventies. At that time he was hiking with his friend, but today he was alone. I asked where his friend was, and he told me that he had broken his ankle about a month ago coming off of Van Cott. He is 85. What an inspiration these two are, at least to me anyway. I hope that I can pull of Van Cott when I am 81, and then again at 85.

Not only does Gordon like to hike, but he is an author too. He has written a book called "Leakage in the Gene Pool: Onset 6/7/1943". I think I will check it out.

It was an amazing coincidence! Continuing the story: after meeting for pizza in town, @Titans and Rick ended up camping just around the corner from us out Spencer Flats way, where we enjoyed a couple of happy hours with them (plus @desertvic one evening) and a hike together. Let's do it again!

Love that!

Incredibly rare photos of @Titans

@SteveR - we had a great time with you guys and yes, we will repeat- next year:)
It was a big BCP week in the desert, @Ugly and son arrived the weekend after you! And we saw @desertvic one more time during work. More photos from a great day:

The width between Steve’s hands was about the width of a short very exposed ledge (out of view ) that forced us to backtrack here. The bypass was on the opposite side

Gobble, gobble, gobble! Happy Turkey Day everybody! Sheila and I did our annual morning hike to the top of Ensign Peak on Thanksgiving Day. The trail was a little too muddy for my liking though.
