I'm a morning person so I like to hike in the dark to a spot with an eastern exposure and enjoy the sunrise. I find it very energizing -- especially when you feel the warmth of the direct sunlight the moment the sun appears. The subsequent morning light is very cool but brief.
This series was from Lopez Island in Washington State in February looking east to the cascades the morning of 2/16/2015:
A shot from last evening. The dark far north end of the Tobacco Roots to left with the peaks of the Highland Mountains (south of Butte, MT) tickling the clouds just to their right. Elkhorn Mountains to right of photo.
