Album Night Shots and Star Trails

DSC_0815.jpg
I posted this once before as part of a trip report but here it is again.
Double Arch, Arches National Park
ISO 800
f3.5
30 sec. exposure
Used a speedlight to light the arch from below. There was also about a 1/4 moon.
I light Arches after dark when all the people leave.

Took these last week in the San Rafael Swell.

I need to work on my foreground on these...

I used the method NateGeesaman posted here to make the comet like effect. To make the star burst, I just maxed out the Brightness and Contrast on the last layer in PS (saved me $50 for the plug in the article mentions)!

Very nice, HomerJ ! So let me just get this straight. On that last photo, you had a bunch of frames, I'd guess 20-25? And on the very last frame, you did the increased brightness and contrast and that is the result? That's killer! I just don't get how changing that one frame gives the whole thing a tapered look....

You layer the photos in photoshop so each image is a later. Then you adjust the opacity of each one. I took 70 photos so I started at 1.4% opacity and increased it by 1.4% until the last photo which was 100%. Then I maxed out the contrast and brightness on the last layer to make it brighter. The photo above I actually went back and decrease the opacity by 1/2 on each image/layer and I liked it a little better. I shouldn't have decreased the last photo as that would have made the star brighter....

I need to take a Photoshop class...
I'm sure it helps, but I've never taken a class. I'm self taught. There are thousands of photoshop tutorials out there, just google "how to ____ in photoshop".

I have a tutorial book, but guess what. No time to read it right now. :(
But my college is offering a photography course. Good thing, I'll get 3 credits and eventually learn something new.
Especially when it comes to software like photoshop.
I guess, I will give it a try :D
Easy earned credits...
