Here’s Venus setting over the Sand Hills, Arizona strip. More photos will follow one day this winter, when Rick gets them processed. We had some lovely dark nights.
first Milky Way shot of the year. After weeks of storms and cloudiness, the last Milky Way window for me opened last night before I move to Washington.
I always wanted to take a Milky Way shot of my favorite tree on Kolob Terrace Road, so I made it happen.
It was a bit eerie because 100 pairs of eyes in the meadows were looking at me. There was a herd of deer resting in the meadow and I stirred them up a bit.
what an amazing night with the Milky Way and bioluminescence at Second Beach in the Olympics
I'm still totally in awe!!
I always wanted to see the blue-glowing algae at night
I did one of my most wanted night sky photo shoots last night. I always wanted to get an image of the Milky Way and Mount Rainier.
I finally made it happen
It was pretty hazy with all the wildfire smoke but luckily the wind shifted a bit for a great outcome
I stayed up past bedtime on my first night in Yellowstone to watch a moonlit eruption of Grand Geyser.
On my way back to the cabin for the night I noticed a bison in front of Old Faithful. I could tell OF was close to an eruption by the pre-play, so I waited around and was able to get a couple shots of him grazing with Old Faithful in the background at midnight.
This was a tough image to get because of the high dynamic range. I wanted to have the lava lake properly exposed, but I also wanted some details in the sky. Not an easy one to do but in the end, I used an old trick to get the exposure right in a single shot.
I went to the volcano and squeezed in the only clear night we had in weeks.
It was nice to be back after a while and shooting starry skies with a fiery lava lake
One Moment In Time
There are certain things in life I really want to see. One of these bucket list items is witnessing the aurora borealis dancing in the sky. I dreamed about it for years but finally made it happen this year. It is hard to describe the feeling when you see the aurora dancing in the sky for the first time. The colors of red, green, and yellow silently move above your head like ghost puppets.
The entire experience is otherworldly - the stars, the sky, the cold, and all the ghost trees that bow their heavy loaded bodies like sentinels in the cold.
The crisp air you feel on your nose and fingers, the serene and quiet landscape surrounding you while standing in the middle of the road in awe while taking it all in.
But it is still only one moment in time. It is one moment you will never forget, and despite the cold, it makes you feel so alive and excited.
I'm humbled and happy that I was able to experience it.
