first Milky Way shot of the year. After weeks of storms and cloudiness, the last Milky Way window for me opened last night before I move to Washington.
I always wanted to take a Milky Way shot of my favorite tree on Kolob Terrace Road, so I made it happen.
It was a bit eerie because 100 pairs of eyes in the meadows were looking at me. There was a herd of deer resting in the meadow and I stirred them up a bit.

I stayed up past bedtime on my first night in Yellowstone to watch a moonlit eruption of Grand Geyser.

On my way back to the cabin for the night I noticed a bison in front of Old Faithful. I could tell OF was close to an eruption by the pre-play, so I waited around and was able to get a couple shots of him grazing with Old Faithful in the background at midnight.

One Moment In Time
There are certain things in life I really want to see. One of these bucket list items is witnessing the aurora borealis dancing in the sky. I dreamed about it for years but finally made it happen this year. It is hard to describe the feeling when you see the aurora dancing in the sky for the first time. The colors of red, green, and yellow silently move above your head like ghost puppets.
The entire experience is otherworldly - the stars, the sky, the cold, and all the ghost trees that bow their heavy loaded bodies like sentinels in the cold.
The crisp air you feel on your nose and fingers, the serene and quiet landscape surrounding you while standing in the middle of the road in awe while taking it all in.
But it is still only one moment in time. It is one moment you will never forget, and despite the cold, it makes you feel so alive and excited.
I'm humbled and happy that I was able to experience it.
