3/21/20 Lancaster County, Nebraska. The core of the Milky Way is apearing now above the horizon a couple hours before sunrise.

The 3 brightest stars in a group near the middle of the picture are (L-R) Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter. Jupiter is a little above and to the right of Mars.

Was down in Bryce the day or so after a full moon. Spent a few hours hiking around after it got dark.

There is a reason this is a regularly taken shot. The trail has this little outjut right at this spot that fits a tripod...

I was glad that my old Sony A6000 with the kit lens worked for a few images yesterday so I could capture the comet.
I can't wait to get my new camera on Wednesday because my A6000 is beyond good and evil after several years of excessive use and abuse.

Ooh! Very nice! What's your new camera going to be?

A couple of days ago I managed to get both clear weather and permission to abandon the family for the evening to see the comet.

Waiting for darkness, there is a 1-day old moon here. Can you find it low on the horizon?

I'll make it easy for you :)

The whole time I was out there was a lot of lightning in the distant south. You could not see the actual lightning, but it was lighting up the clouds a lot. Once the comet dropped into the clouds, I pivoted to check out the Milky Way and the lightning. Bright star is Jupiter.

This has been a great year for the planets and the sky, when it was not smokey.
Jupiter and Saturn. (and supposedly Pluto is right between them, tho obviously not visible to the naked eye)
Also the Teapot means the Milky Way is there, the sky was just not dark enough for the photo. I think actually all of Sagittarius is visible.
The bit of diagonal light in the top right was a really late crepuscular ray.

Learned a lot since the autumn nights are REAL long, and finding stars and constellations passed some of the hours of 3 nights on some tyvek.

I don't know much about night photography, but I took this at the house where I'm at in Alta. I had no idea the light from the windows would light up everything so dramatically, and you can see the lights from Driggs in the distance.

I think I have a shot of the Andromeda Galaxy (2.5 million light years away). Looking up towards the NNW around 8:45 pm 11-5-20. Alta, Wyoming. And maybe Mars to the right of the shot? Pleiades in the lower tree.
