Mtb 2018

Oooof! That sounds nasty.

I took a small biff on this ride. Not really sure what happened. I was riding into the sun with intermittent spots of shade, so visibility was a bit of an issue. As I came around a slight curve I just felt the tires get loose and the bike skidded out from under me. I almost posted a short video, but it is not really exciting or even very funny. No pain at the time. I spent the rest of the day helping my bro-in-law move. I have been a little sore yesterday and today, but not sure if it is due to the biff or the move. Probably a little from columns A and B.

Glad you recovered and are back in the saddle!

Road Brim Trail at Powder Mountain Saturday. Easy fun 6 miles with beautiful views. I didn't stop to take pictures because it felt good to be on the bike and I simply didn't feel like stopping except once to take a picture of my favorite flowers.

I do my best thinking on a good long climb. I have a hard decision to make that if I say yes will change everything. My heart knows what I want but the logical side of me having a hard time reconciling with the how to make it work.

I had spent Friday night and Saturday hanging out with my favorite person on this earth my niece and her mom, dad and my mom at Lava Hot Springs. Sunday morning after I said good bye I looked up the trails in Pocatello. I have ridden several of them but had yet to hit Mink Creeks Crest Line trail and it met my requirement with a kick ass climb.

I started around noon I think. Excellent trail riding up. The last bit to the saddle I had to hike the bike more than ride it. I was also running out of steam. I did have a small snack and that helped. My plan was to ride Crest Line out and back but after losing elevation towards the end of Crest Line I didn't want to turn around and go back up. I checked my map and decided to take East Mink Creek to the camp ground and the paved road back to the parking for the Crest Line trail. In all I climbed 2,701ft with a 13.3 mile loop. It took me 4 hours. Views are beautiful up that high. Clears the mind.

After this spot I started losing elevation again and made the decision to ride down East Mink Creek. It was a good choice I don't think I had the energy to ride down Crest Line. East Mink is a ATV trail wider and easier to bomb down than trail I rode up.

Little pond I passed as I made my way down the ATV trail.

Not sure I have a decision yet. I need some questions answered then I can make a choice. This is all work related.

Sweet! Go Wildcats! I did my undergrad and Masters at Weber and loved it. Dawn patrol is the only way to go on some of these trails. Here is a shot of the lower lot at Basin at 7:30 on Sat. morning as I was finishing my ride. I hit it just right because I didn't see a soul until I got back to the Maples doubletrack.039.jpg

Yeah I use to do Dawn Patrol at Snowbasin when I was first learning to mountain bike and there wasn't a sole around. It is crazy how much it has changed in 11 years. But I like it. It means less people hanging out on their couch.

Phillip's Ridge on Teton Pass ~17 miles
This one is a must ride every year. Beautiful and fun. This ride we took our sweet time. It was Laurel and Clay's first time riding this trail. Clay loves to bomb the downhill but Laurel is still learning and likes to take her time. Clay and I would bomb for a bit. Then wait for Laurel to catch up.

Moose I scared up from the bushes. He really didn't want to get off the trail. I was starving and wanted lunch at Stagecoach. We pulled out our bear spray and slowly walked towards him tossing rocks at trees to make loud noises hoping to scare him off the trail. Finally he moved off and we finished our ride.

After lunch at the Stagecoach I rode another 8 miles on the lower trails at Targhee stopping frequently to take photos of flowers.

I love taking skills classes. And I will give a huge thumbs up for Kugel's Gravity School. This past Sunday I took his burms and turns clinic in Park City. His enthusiasm for mountain biking is infectious. Kind of resparked my love for the downhill. There may be a weekend coming up dedicated to lift riding. I am feeling the need to get rowdy.

PS. First load of junk has been delivered to my semi permanent abode in Utah. I suffered one casualty. A poster size photo of me canyoneering crashed to the asphalt shattering the glass and ruining the photo.[emoji26] I guess it is better the photo than me.[emoji39][emoji23]

I spent Saturday morning in that neck of the woods too. I wanted to ride Sardine, but Friday night I read that they were doing an off road expo in Maples parking lot. I still wanted to do Sardine, but made Green Pond my backup. On Saturday morning I drove up to Maples TH and there was no one there, so I decided to ride Sardine. Started at 5:45 and ended about 7:15. Maples was still pretty mellow as I was pulling out. Construction sucked on Trappers on the way down.

013.jpg015.jpg There was a moose in this meadow. He was over against the tree line in the shadows. Couldn't get a good shot, but the meadow was nice, even if you can't see Bullwinkle.

Yeah there was jeep after jeep after 4runner after 4runner driving up that road Saturday morning. So many cars and yes construction sucked.

I was seeing what time in the morning I would have to wake up to ride Snowbasin before work if I wanted to ride approximately 8 miles (4 up 4 down).

I am hoping to sneak a ride in 3x per week until I can't.

Air quality is a bit hard to swallow around here.

Quick ride last night to Ogden Over Look.

Good to be home.

You folks have such incredible places to ride. Someday I'm going to have to load up my bike and head for better trails.
