Isn't there something in the Desolation Wilderness near Tahoe that looks like this? We climbed at Lover's Leap and hiked to a granite creek similar to this on our rest day.

You got the right area...Desolation Wilderness near Tahoe.

I'll accept that! We hiked from Upper Velma Lake to Fontanillis Lake along that water slide/water fall. It was lovely. The popular trail head was called Eagle Lake Trail Head I think.

i wondered exactly. i just searched 'upper lake and lower lake desolation wilderness', and when Velmas came up they looked likely on the map. may be i'll make it there this summer. it's on the list now.

Looks a lot like the [Idaho] Sawtooths. Certainly looks vaguely familiar. I think I may have been there before.

(Although..... hunh.... I think there's a lake in the Bighorn Crags that looks like this. I'd check my photos, but I have to rush off to a job interview. I'll take a closer look this afternoon.)
