That part is correct. This is just up a private road near there.

These mountains are named for a fairly large lake on their southern edge.

@LarryBoy - Yes, I think this would be considered the dry side of the Sierra...although I'm not 100% of that "classification"

I think two of the above guesses were in Yosemite. Right state...but head north. The trail head is very popular with day hikers. I'll post another picture tomorrow if we need more hints.
