Not quite. I am not sure what this Natural Landmark that you refer to is, Reef. Can you name the "mountain"/hill range?Joshua Tree Natural Landmark near St. George, then?
Nope. Never been there. Just know there is a road down there through the northernmost Joshua tree forest (which is listed as a national--oops not natural--landmark).Not quite. I am not sure what this Natural Landmark that you refer to is, Reef. Can you name the "mountain"/hill range?
But of course. It's just after the second barricade on the road to Swasey's Leap: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.9889826,-110.4870503,90m/data=!3m1!1e3I think I shot this in 2003 on the approach hike to the Lower Black box hike/swim near Swazey's leap. Dennis, you know where it is, right?
Thanks, Dennis. But of course. It's just after the second barricade on the road to Swasey's Leap: https://www.google.com/maps/@38.9889826,-110.4870503,90m/data=!3m1!1e3
Close enough, Rock. This was 5-10 miles from the road through the BEAVER DAM mountains south of the Joshua Tree National Natural Landmark (that is a thing?). The JTree's And barrel cactus are indicative of this unique ecosystem in Utah. You're up!I think Reef's referring to Joshua Tree Road Scenic Backway between St. George (Ivins) and Mesquite in the Beavertail Mtns. I've driven it, and I don't recall seeing any barrel cacti like that. But wherever you are, it's the way southern part of Utah, so could be in the Beavertails. The hill behind you looks like that country.
Thanks but I'm glad you posted something cuz I don't have anything on tap to post, although that will likely change after the next few days as I'll be out hiking in Utah with my dad.I think Reef should take this one, as he was just as close as I was, he just wasn't sure what it was called.
Go for it, @Reef&Ruins
(If he doesn't show up before too long I'll post one.)
I heard that at the top he got first-find of a geocache and also there was a perfect arrowhead nearby.I posted one kind of like this some time ago. Dennis has probably climbed this thing. More than once. And on his dirt bike. And maybe even his ATV.
