Guess the spot: Utah Edition

Spring canyon where?
Capitol Reef.

And @Rockskipper, unfortunately, I have not been that far down the canyon, I think. I headed in at Chimney Rock Canyon, camped just above the narrows, explored maybe another 2 or 3 miles down, then turned back and went out the way we came. Unless I would've seen what you're talking about in that portion. I'd love to get back there and do the whole thing. Upper Spring all the way down Lower Spring to the river.

What exactly is the Elf's Slipper?

It's really cool and somewhat famous in the geology world as an example of a soft sediment deformation structure. The soft sediments were deformed by pressure to look like a shoe with a large curling tip like an elf's slipper and then hardened in the canyon wall. I have some photos tucked away on a hard drive somewhere, and if my memory serves me it's about 4 to 6 feet long. If you're interested in it, ask at the headquarters there. There's a DVD about Cap Reef geology that talks about it, too:

This following link has a picture of something similar, though not nearly as cool:

(Sorry if this is too much info.) :)

I saw this past September after I found it mentioned in one of the CRNHA guidebooks. It's a LOT longer than 4-6 feet (unless you mean the actual curl part only). I think it is that tall though. The full length is closer to that of a full size crew cab truck.
I only had a super wide angle lens with me and an iPhone but I might be able to get my Dad's picture of it to post up if you want to see it.

Hickman Bridge? Sure is purdy.

ETA - Hickman doesn't quite work, but looks like Cap Reef.

Two out of my three Utah bighorn sightings have been in CRNP, and that is in keeping of the current theme....

Looks kind of Zionish to me, like maybe on the east side somewhere, but I'm pretty sure I've never been at this specific spot.
