ok, @regehr .... an arch close to the entry/exit of a wide canyon in Utah with a hiking route going through the arch. We need more hints pls....

My initial thought was Buck Canyon arch, but looking at the second photo I'm pretty sure that's not it. Definitely looks like somewhere in the Roost/DD country.

BTW, we found hiking into White Roost using the horse trail, down to this arch, and back, to be an excellent day hike. I had google mapped it at 8 miles round trip but I think it ended up farther, perhaps 10. I had long wanted to backpack in these canyons but due to major cowing, am no longer all that interested. The route through and over the arch is just super cool!! It's only a bit more than an hour from Hanksville to the White Roost TH. The very last part of the drive requires high clearance, other than that it would be fine for cars.

More east than north, but I'll give it to ya. It is indeed Highway 12, just north of the Lower Calf Creek Falls TH.

I wondered if I'd trick someone into thinking that. I just managed somehow to capture a similar color glow on the walls of an often darker canyon.
