Album Fall Colors 2016

I was driving the other day to Telluride. One of my favorite (and accessible) spots to see some color is Dallas Divide, and the Sneffels Range, between Ridgway and Telluride. The aspens were not very yellow (or red, orange), but I found the oak, seviceberry, mountain mahogany, dogwood and chokecherry, in full display.
It was a spectacular display that more than made up for the aspens.

I am loving these. @gnwatts ... those are sweet!

And it has been so long since I have seen Larch during the fall, (going on 20+ years).

This weekend three of the kids and I needed to get out, so we spent the evening playing around up Mill B North in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The oak and maple are mostly past prime... but the sun provided a few minutes of goodness.

Oh Yeah... !
Not to anger any censors or kids...

B!tchin!

We went up Arethusa and Ptarmigan back in the 90's. It was during July, so seasonally differing sights.
Thank you.

So you know the area! We took in both cirques- going up the very busy Ptarmigan trail, then traversing off trail above the highway at treeline and around the corner into Arethusa. Circling Arethusa is one of the finest short hikes in the Rockies IMO, and is not crowded thanks to the lack of an official trail into the cirque, and the need for a bit of routefinding on the trail-less loop around the upper cirque.

Last week, near Moraine Lake in Banff National Park. The alpine larch trees were full on. Below is the very aptly named Larch Valley, which leads towards Sentinel Pass.

Whoa awesome! I've wanted to see a mass of fall color larch since I learned about the tree. That is an awesome sight. Thanks for sharing!

A couple more.....
We were in Telluride for the Neil Young concert (if you like Mr. Young this is not to be missed), look at all that grey hair!

The color was the best I have ever seen here, including the drive over from Carbondale. I wanted to stop every few minutes to photograph on the drive over, but my wife started getting mad.
