Album Byways & Backways

This is a road I drive occasionally. It's a back road that used to be a "minimum maintenance" road, no gravel, only occasionally graded. A highway and bridge were built to cross the river, and now residents of the nearby town of Maskell use it often on their way to Vermillion, South Dakota. The fall colors of the native grasses can be striking--they are often more colorful than the trees, and stick around for a very long time (the dead grass will stand and hold its color well into next year).
