I broke 50 nights! I'd usually be thrilled to hit 50 by the end of the year! Epic high stress levels made me decide to take Sage and take a trip down to the Swell. Spent a night on the rim of Buckhorn Wash and another out at the end of the Mexican Mountain Road. Also, I am so in love with this camper. So many reasons, but the new favorite is the ability to sleep in late when daytime highs are in the 90's. And that's not running a fan or anything. Just good air flow and shade.

Okay boys, I just returned from a 20 day backpacking trip in the Southeast mountains of TN and NC---and managed to punch out two notorious Nutbuster trails---Upper Slickrock #42 and Citico's Brush Mt trail. Here's a link to the pics---

I start the trip on August 26 in excitement because my finished Dan McHale pack finally arrived the day before and just in time.


I run into some backpackers crossing Slickrock Creek.


I pull my 45th backpack of the Nutbuster Trail---the Upper Slickrock Creek trail---one of the toughest trails in the Southeast. This pic shows a pretty rock on Leg 4 of a 10 leg trail.

A big tree on the Naked Ground Trail along Little Santeetlah Creek.

I reach the top of Bob Bald at 5,300 feet and enjoy the cooler weather and the phlox.

Towards the end of the trip I take Brush Mt trail up to this trailpost and top trailhead. It's a rugged trail!


20 days later I end up where I started at Beech Gap on the TN/NC line.

Season closer in the Uintas solo backpacking to Twin Lakes over the weekend. It was a full on adventure from the hike in, the fishing, amazing camp spot, lots of high points for views, and the night sky was cosmic to say the least! Gonna miss it out there. I am pretty sure this was the last warm weekend up there. We are supposed to have snow up there by Friday. Damn nice way to wrap things up in the Uintas this year!

We just packraft the class 3 day run near Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort. Its kind of a hidden gem as far as whitewater rivers go in utah. We never see anybody else on it except for commercial groups and you are in a pretty deep canyon the whole time. Here is a video from last year on the Sevier:
