Bag Night Challenge 2016

This has been my worst outdoor year ever. 2 bag nights. Pathetic. Hoping to ramp this up quite a big for the second half.

January sometime - bluff balloon trip.
March sometime - moab

Glad I'm not the only one! By this time last year I probably had 15-20. This year I have three.

After we had set up camp and everything, we had a run in with some hungry ravens, and we ended up hiking out before sunset. Still debating posting a TR for that one...

We have to have a report on this one. Did you not have your raven canister?

We had a nice little cool front come through so I threw my stuff in the car after work and headed out for one last bag night in Florida before I leave next Saturday. 3 deer, 2 armadillo and a bunny graced me with their presence.
The armadillo were funny. They came marching through my campsite right after sunset, completely unaffected by my being there.
Nature, wildlife and campfires are so good for my soul. This makes bag night number 8 for the year.

Nice. Wildlife and those other things do serve to replenish. Have you been in the Everglades NP wildlife watching? A canoe trip I did there was one of my favorite nature events ever.

I've done one of the airboat rides out in the everglades that was pretty cool. Then I did an overnight in Big Cypress Preserve which is right next to the Everglades. Since I've started hiking down here I have seen wild boar, deer, wild turkeys, water moccasin, gators, bunnies, armadillos, and tortoises. Tons of different birds. The weirdest bird was a Roseate Spoonbill, very cool looking.

May 6-7 for one night on the South Rim of Grand Canyon for half marathon. It snowed and rained and hailed. Ended up being a 13 mile mud run.




This was taken at 4am. I couldn't sleep any more. It got worse.

Bag night number 9. Camped one night in Missouri on my drive from Florida to Colorado. It started raining abut 2am and rained for the next 36 hours, the entire time i drove from Missouri through Kansas and into the next day as I reached Colorado.

Bag night number 10 on the South Platte River. I was supposed to be backpacking with a group on the Colorado trail but it was painfully apparent in the first couple of miles that I wasn't going to be able to keep up with the group due to altitude and the hills. So I bailed, and found a little campground on the south Platte River. Got down to a chilly 37F.

I have to get some nights in to start catching up. Last year my wife and I didn't even get out on a trail, so compared to that this year is already far better.
