Bag Night Challenge 2013

You got that right! I had to retreat from my camp high on the reef called Capital. Even after pitching my tent behind an ancient juniper the inside of the tent was thrumming and the walls were being beat by pebbles and sand on the outside and, in turn, beating me senseless on the inside.

I moved back down into UMT canyon Saturday evening and repitched the tent in shelter under some trees and bushes and guyed the crap out of it. Still had a sleepless night even with earplugs in. I got more sleep than the birds I'll bet.

I'm sure the birds would agree with that statement. I never thought about how they'd fare in a windstorm before. It was pretty bad in Moab, too. I could have made a sand castle Sunday morning with all the sand that blew into my tent from Saturday's storm.

Is Neiloro smiling or did he just get a surprise from his envelope in his hand?
I can't believe you guys could sit out in the open while Dan and I were hunkered dow in our shelters. What time Saturday was that taken? Sunday dawned, and stayed, gorgeous.

That shot was actually taken on Friday night, but Saturday was about the same down in our campsite. There were a few mellow gusts that blew through but it was quite mellow in camp. Up on the rim meanwhile was pretty crazy.

I was stationed in some redrock on the eastern side of Grand Gulch. Here, according to the SPOT message I sent.

I went with no tent, so the sand provided a nice dry scrub on my face. It was my first time sans tent, and it wasn't a great initiation. I loved hiking without the weight, but I would have loved to have the coverage that night. I did sleep well though.

I hiked LMT pretty quick, I leave the rest for the TR.

This was actually my practice camping trip for the upcoming backpacking season which will start for me the first weekend in May.
And I'm really happy that now all of my stuff fits into my 38 L Osprey pack and I'm good with it for shorter backpacking trips. For the longer ones I still need my 48L Osprey pack.

Ahhh but the new server is sooo big. Just wait til you see the new feature I'll be adding in the next month or so. ;)
There I put one up. Not sure how I took it..

New features ??? I am on tinterhooks. Bring 'em on.

Can you hypothesize h*o*w I could have done that? I did NOT stack two images in software.

Easy! A long exposure in which you just happened to hold still long enough to get a bit of an impression of yourself. Kind of like this time at work one day that I was shooting a theater and thought it would be fun to populate the seats with myself. This is a single 30 second exposure, I sat in one chair for half of it, then moved to the other.
