You got that right! I had to retreat from my camp high on the reef called Capital. Even after pitching my tent behind an ancient juniper the inside of the tent was thrumming and the walls were being beat by pebbles and sand on the outside and, in turn, beating me senseless on the inside.
I moved back down into UMT canyon Saturday evening and repitched the tent in shelter under some trees and bushes and guyed the crap out of it. Still had a sleepless night even with earplugs in. I got more sleep than the birds I'll bet.
I'm sure the birds would agree with that statement. I never thought about how they'd fare in a windstorm before. It was pretty bad in Moab, too. I could have made a sand castle Sunday morning with all the sand that blew into my tent from Saturday's storm.
