Spent the last two nights in the Henry's. Had planned on moving camp down to Cedar Mesa this morning, but it had not stopped blowing and snowing since I pitched camp Thur. night. Had the Jeep stuck in the snow twice, hours of shovel and winch work by myself. When I crawled out of the tent this morning I just folded it up and bailed. Just wasn't feeling like going from fighting snow to fighting mud... Had a good time in spite of though.

a few more camp nights are planned for next week, not sure how many and it's also weather permitting

Has someone heard anything about the three possible missing hikers? They are overdue for 2 days after hiking the Wave. BLM started a search today when I hiked to the Wave. I saw their car at the trail head 2 days in a row and was worried to see it still there when I came back. But BLM had already started a helicopter search...

Wow. First I've heard of this. How about you @ashergrey?

I have not. It's late now but I'll pass the tip along to my colleagues and see what comes of it.

it a Chinese group of three. The helicopter was out for hours, searching the entire area. Talked to a BLM officer at he trailhead. They started the search after checking the trail register and their car still there after two days.
Wondered a bit this morning about the car, but they could have also done Buckskin or Paria. But they definitely had their Wave parking permit on their dashboard.
Was pretty cold the last two nights, not sure where they are and what happened. But if someone ill prepared is out there in 12 degree F for two nights.... :(

Wouldn't they have needed another permit if overnighting in Buckskin anyway?

you would have another kind of permit, not the typical Wave permit they had in their car. But passing the same car two days in a row without having a close look at their permit on the dash board I definitely thought they were some crazy folks doing Buckskin in the middle of the winter

Right. My point being, even if they'd done North Coyote Buttes on day one, then entered Buckskin with the intent of backpacking it on day two, there would have been multiple permit tags on the dash. I assume BLM/Kane County would have checked that first and not launched an SAR if the group had been permitted to do Buckskin/Paria.

I've been in Buckskin during late November and it would be doable. I certainly wouldn't want to hike out through the Paria River in those temperatures though.

that's what they told me, too. They checked the trail register and the cars at the trail head and this particular one should have left 2 days ago. They never checked out or mentioned to hike anything else.
At least BLM reacted and started SAR, not sure what really happened to them.
Especially with that perfectly signed trail to the Wave right now.
