This is my favorite photo from my trip
I loved this canyon. Growing up in Kanab left me always knowing about and always wanting to go through Buckskin Gulch and I finally did!
The original plan for the trip was planned 3 months ago with my brother and brother-in-laws...within the last week...
This is Part 2. Part 1 can be found here.
Day 3 (2nd day in the Buckskin):
We got up and ate breakfast and then started the hike back down to the Buckskin. I was already dreading the slog back up that miserable sandy hill to camp... But soon forgot about that as we dropped back into the gulch...

In 2008 Antlerking invited me on my first trip down to the Paria with him and his friend Justin. During that trip I hiked Wire Pass. When I rounded a corner and the whole canyon was glowing it took my breath away and I knew I had to come back! Then again, in...
Was lucky enough to take a casual jaunt down into Paria Canyon from the Whitehouse Trailhead. Have done this trip in a variety of ways over the years and its hard to beat the simplicity of leaving from Whitehouse. Further, the canyon below the confluence (all the way to where it opens up before...
In March of 2012 I made a short but sweet visit to White Pocket and was totally amazed with the area. After returning from that trip I knew that this was somewhere I wanted to take the family to spend a few days exploring all the different formations and in October of 2012 we made that happen...

The Original Trip Report on ADVENTR.CO
For a little over a year now I've been pretty obsessed with exploring and photographing the unusual and spectacular sandstone formations of The Paria Plateau. I've been to Coyote Buttes North five times, Coyote...
I was able to get a reservation for The Wave on November 12, so I decided to see other places while in the area. Seeing that my permit for The Wave was on Monday, I drove to Page on Friday and got a motel room so I could be ready to go early the next morning. The drive from Moab to Page was...
Brother Jim and his partner Walter flew out for a week of immersion in the southwestern backcountry. I drove out from Placitas, NM, to meet them in Vegas on Oct. 10. The idea was to see as much as we could in the time allotted. They had a rental car and I drove my home-away-from-home ’03 Tundra...

On Monday morning we got up early and wandered over to The White Pocket again to catch the sunrise. We arrived plenty early to try and catch the pre-sunrise glow, which was...

On Sunday we had permits to visit Coyote Buttes South. I spent a few hours in Coyote Buttes South back in February, but was looking forward to exploring more of the area today. We...

The Original Trip Report on ADVENTR.CO
A few months back I managed to get another pair of permits to the Coyote Buttes North area so that Amanda and I could visit The Wave again and explore a few new areas. It turns out that I had picked a great weekend to go...
(Fair warning: this trip report is long and a bit pretentious)
Quivering, the calf muscles strained. Toes groped, making the muscle fibers contract and release. The sticky rubber-wrapped toe caps on the shoes surrounding those feet scraped along, seeking any little edge or knob upon which...
*No* water whatsoever in Buckskin this past weekend. Muddy remnants of once-standing pools are evident, but your feet are gonna stay dry. No ropes or webbing were necessary for us. When you get to the rockfall, don't go left and use the fraying red and white rope that has been there for who...

This trip report is dedicated in loving memory of my mom, Kathryn J. Langstraat.
I've long been a believer of enjoying life and living it to the fullest. That's why I'm out exploring the Colorado Plateau and Rocky Mountains just about every chance I get (and...

The Original Trip Report on ADVENTR.CO
A few months back I scored another set of permits to Coyote Buttes North and The Wave. Since I was going to be down here for that, I decided to grab a pair of permits to Coyote Buttes South and make a weekend out of it. This...
December 2010
After failing to get permits at least a dozen times, I was finally able to visit Coyote Buttes North last weekend. We made it to the Wire Pass trailhead around 8:30am and spent pretty much the whole day out there, we didn't get back to the truck until after sometime after 4 (and...
January 2012
After spending the previous two days at White Pocket and Coyote Buttes South, I was feeling a little overwhelmed. Everything was just too photogenic! It's still hard to comprehend the beauty that this small area of the desert holds.
To be honest, after doing White Pocket and...
January 2012
After spending New Years Eve at The White Pocket, we raced over to Cottonwood Cove for a day of exploring the Coyote Buttes South permit area. Coyote Buttes South(CBS) is famous mostly because it's neighbor to the north, Coyote Buttes North(CBN), the home of the famous Wave...
