Seen along the Toroweap road early this morning. He was kind enough to allow me to dig my camera out from the back seat, only flying off when I inched the truck a little closer. Anyone care to positively identify what type of bird this is? It was big. @Artemus

Me too! Eyes in general are an amazing adaptation - no matter what species. And they are at the center of the the debate of Intelligent Design vs. Evolution. Intelligent design advocate: nothing this complex could come about through random mutation. Evolutionist: this elegant optics is the result of natural selection and the tuning of specialization for competitive advantage to advance the cause. Amazing!

There was something in his tone that got my attention. For 7 days, I had been listening to @Keith say "Look, another bear rock." But this time was different. He was serious. I looked at the rock, which was moving. 75 feet away, right on our trail, was a grizzly bear. He stood up, looked at us, then dropped back down to continue looking for food.




We carefully walked around him.
