Uintas Conditions 2016

I'd head up there if I didn't have plans for the weekend. Hopefully someone on here does!

Well at least my wife and I made it up there one day this summer. I wanted to try to go again but we had to do a few major home repairs. We might just go for a drive next weekend and see how it goes.

The season's not over yet. Last year I was hiking in the Unitas in November.

x2. We have warm weather headed our way next week. That snow could easily be mostly gone by next week weekend.

That is good to hear. Is the road work done up there yet? When we went in July we got stuck for quite a while waiting to get through.

I haven't seen any road work up there when I've gone. However, I haven't driven any farther than Crystal Lake TH on the Mirror Lake Highway this year though. And I've driven a little bit along the North Slope, but that's all.

We drove up as far as the Bald Mountain turnoff and then went back and hiked from Crystal Lake to the The Notch. There was hardly any snow anywhere and while we were hiking it rained and hailed but no snow as of about 4 PM on Saturday. (10/1/16)

Nice! I think this could be the last weekend like that up there this year unless there is significant warm/dry spell after the storm we have coming tonight.

Suuuuuuuuuucks. I wanted to get up there this weekend but had car troubles to contend with. It looks like my mountain season is done.

I am going to have to watch closely because I really wanted to try to get out for another hike. We weren't able to get any overnighters in this year because our house was falling down around our ears but even the day hikes out there have been a blast.

I'm sure day hikes will continue to be doable for a few more weeks, location and weather depending.

My "few more weeks" turned out to be a bit longer. If you can tolerate short days and low temps, the Uintas are lovely right now. Not much snow to speak of, even above 10k. Mostly just in shaded areas and aspects. Could change with a storm forecast Thursday, but temperatures are supposed to rebound by the coming weekend.

This was up around Ruth Lake on 11/14/16.
