The Pfeifferhorn - July 14, 2022

love the pics and TR.

I gotta get up the Pfeifferhorn soon, climbed it a bunch of times in the 2000-2010 time frame but not since then!

on the other hand after spending a few weeks outside of Utah I'm in pretty sorry shape, I think Grandeur would be a struggle right now :(

Don't worry @regehr, I did the Pfeifferhorn and would still have trouble making it up Grandeur. :)

I'm off to Yellowstone in about an hour. I'm looking forward to some cooler temperatures.

I hope the smoke from the Moose Fire doesn't affect you any. I'm heading for the Tetons in a few days and have been watching it grow.

yesterday we hiked up Red Pine Fork, my wife stopped at the lake and my son and I planned to continue to the Pfeifferhorn. we didn't end up summiting (I'm not in very good shape and also we topped out on the Red Pine headwall towards White Baldy instead of at the usual spot and also we didn't want to keep my wife waiting too long). anyhow the thing I wanted to say is that god this mountain has gotten popular, there were ton of people on the upper route. one group had a drone along, one was kicking down a bunch of rocks from the upper part of the standard exit from Red Pine. anyway, ugh -- this was on a weekday. I think this one has gotten too popular for me, glad I summited it a bunch of times prior to 2010.

Sounds like a great day. I know my route finding skills when I'm scrambling along ridgelines, or up to a summit leave a lot to be desired. :)
And I am following you?!

We saw seven people on our way to the summit, and this was on a Thursday. On our way down, past Red Pine, there were quite a few people headed up, though I'm guessing that they were headed to the lake and not a summit attempt as it was getting kind of late for that.

I thought I was following you? :D We're not going to encounter any knife's edges on this trip. You may need to bring a rope though so that you can pull me up any hills that we might encounter. :)

well, it was the rock kickers that did it for me, not sure if they were enjoying themselves too much or just spectacularly incompetent at walking, but it sort of killed my desire to be on the summit pyramid with folks above!

I'll be here for awhile, though the Idaho national forest is trying to smoke me out. I'm most scared of the gummi bear attack because it usually hits around midnight when you can't get to the store.

Will be a california fire smoke now....... 30000 acres in 2 days up on the Siskiyou NF.......

Many years ago I hiked to Red Pine Lake. On the way, I passed a spire rising from the floor of the canyon/valley. Some hikers told me that it was the Pfeifferhorn but obviously it wasn't. It was a spire maybe 100-200' high. Looked like it would be good for climbing. Does anybody know the name of the formation I am referring to?

peak 10997 above Red Pine Lake is frequently mistaken for the Pfeifferhorn, and if not that it might have been nearby Thunder Mountain
