The scene in Boggy where the monster looks in the window...that's the only part I've seen, that short clip, and I refuse to see the rest because I have an overactive imagination. I can't watch scary movies because they come back to haunt me when I'm camping.

My wife and I walked up to the 1.5 mile marker in City Creek today for a round trip total of 6.73 miles. The air in the valley hasn't been good, but this morning it was getting a green reading so we finished up before it got worse in the afternoon.
Man, I need one of these.
We call this guy the "hospital crow" as it is always hanging out at LDS Hospital
This squirrel was nice enough to pose for me
The city has put in some trails above Memory Grove and we decided to take one of them
They contour around the side of the hill before either dropping down to Memory Grove or head up to Bonneville Blvd.
Still contouring
I have never been on any of these trails before. I also took my shoulder sling pack which weighed about five pounds.

Hard to tell, but that is a golden eagle perched on top of the rock. Sorry, my camera was not the best at zooming.

The camera I took with me this morning was a Olympus TG-630, which doesn't take the best pictures and has a feeble zoom capability, but I can spit on it, lick it, or throw it at passers by and it still keeps on ticking.
I knew that you would want to know this information @Rockskipper.

Hit the 2.5mile marker up City Creek early this morning for a total of 8.73 miles on my walk.

Okay, today I made it to where the City Creek Canyon road is closed due to the water treatment plant being rebuilt. Round-trip from my house, it measures at 9.2 miles.
A couple of hummingbird nests above
Moseying up the road as only the Scatman can do.
We got a little snow this past week, but most of it has already melted away, unless it is a shady area.

For a guy with no (or minimal) cartilage in his knee(s) your distances walked/hiked are getting impressive.
Mrs. TractorDoc and I bundled up for the 15 degree temps and ventured out to Cuyahoga Valley. Temperatures have been below freezing for a couple weeks - with some days at or below zero - so we wanted to see how some of the waterfalls were looking. Dealing with the cold was worth it to see the ice formations. Blue Hen Falls is currently Blue Hen Icicle.
Wall of Icicles above Buttermilk Falls. Buttermilk was completely frozen and snow covered.

Back at it in City Creek this morning. Supposed to reach 60 degrees here in Salt Lake today. Trees and shrubs are budding and my senses tell me that there is pollen in the air already.
Sheila and I took the road up to where it is closed for the water treatment plant construction again, but this time taking the trail back down the canyon instead of the road, this added some mileage to our walk and we finished at right around 10 miles.

Yeah, I miss those days sometimes.
3 days till Ensign Skipper. Got any advice for my descent off the top? Maybe drop and roll?
I'll be taking the Canon EOs 20D on this one. I've already charged the battery!

Take a paraglider with you. Quick and decent descent. A big weather balloon works too, but you have to be good at letting air out gradually.

Ensign isn't tall enough to launch a paraglider off of. The weather balloon might work since I'm already full of hot air.

Well, today was a big day - my first hill hike since knee surgery last October. I managed to make it up Ensign Peak and back down without any issues, other than being old and out of shape.
Light orange route is the official trail these days and the one that we took this morning.
The original trail started here years ago and went straight up the south face of Ensign

Headed back to Ensign this morning, but this time we took a route that I've never done before by heading up Hell Canyon. While the south trail up ensign is only about a half a mile long, the route up Hell is just under 2.9 miles one way.
The trailhead is located on Victory Road, and there are plenty of switchbacks to get one up on the hill to the Lakeview Trail. Once in Hell Canyon, we encountered snow and ice due to the slope being on the north side of Ensign. And when we got to the summit, we had it all to ourselves for about 20 minutes. After a snack, we headed back down the way we had come.
The pink trail is the one we took this morning while the blue trail is the original trail that heads straight up the face of Ensign, and he orange one is the
