The Maze Overlook

Nice....... we came up the Flint trail one year with 6 inches of snow on it....... interesting. :hot:

Good pics. So there's others who do that in the snow, eh? The pic of the Flint Trail with snow really brought back memories. My Dad took me down it with about a foot of snow in about 1972. I don't think Hans Flat station was there, very deserted especially back then when the park was only a few years old. The whole road on top had lots of snow, we made fresh track. Dad only put one pair of chains on at the top of Flint. I don't think the road was as deeply cut in as it is now, the edge had no protection.

I have a vivid memory as a kid looking way down the side of the cliff next to me right after we started, and having the truck (70 International Travelall) slide several inches toward the edge before Dad recovered it and kept us going. We went out by Hite.

I rarely drive offroad, just hate it. Takes forever to get somewhere and if you're alone, you have to do everything by yourself like scouting and spot road conditions. That's nothing for me, way too lazy for that. If I can hike to a place, I prefer the hike. :)
And since I've barely driven offroad in my live and not want to change it I prefer hikes and backpacking trips. I'm simply a scared chick that has no idea how to drive an offroad trail

Those are all the things I love about off-road driving! Being completely on your own and handling every minute of it. One of the best moments I've had was flying down the dirt road to Horseshoe Canyon (hardly off-roading I know, but I was all alone so it felt like it) blasting the soundtracks from "127 Hours" and "Thelma and Louise". Pure exhilaration! :D

I love to drive offroad too. As much as I love to hike.

I don't love either as much as homemade chocolate ice cream at The Overlook though :D.

I was just mentioning this trip to my wife and her favorite memory was the placement of our portable toilet. We found the best perch with the most majestic view and parked the toilet so that you could admire the gorgeous vista while doing your business. Most memorable toilet location ever.

Dollhouse #1 has an awesome toilet spot too. Even has a TP and hand sanitizer holder made of sandstone.

I've lost count of the number of times I've been to the Maze Overlook since moving to Utah in 1976. Still, every time I go there I'm not prepared for the view as I top that last high spot on the road and the Maze comes into view.
