Spotted: Poison Ivy, Oak, or Sumac

Urushiol reacts to an enzyme on your skin, which activates the immune response that causes a rash and itching. People who are truly immune (about 10% of the population) have a gene deletion and don't produce the enzyme, therefore their skin doesn't react. I've tested it out on myself over the years and not only have I never gotten a reaction, no one in my immediate family has, either. That most likely means I inherited the gene deletion from both of my parents. My mom doesn't react, but her brother does. His son didn't, though.

Stan used to think he was immune, then found out he isn't while relieving himself near poison oak :help:

Often the most common plant near but not in drainages..miserable stuff..I find that soap and water may help after possible contact.

That's gotta be the worst way to find out!

I've ran into poison oak up Willard Canyon and poison ivy in Hog Canyon near Hite.
