Album Night Shots and Star Trails

Tonight. Honestly I think things like this and the solar eclipse that actually get more people outside and looking up is a good thing.
Perhaps the news stories confusing people into thinking that both planets were going to make one brighter star, not so much... Maybe if you squint?

I was going for a little bit more flare in the city lights.

Friday night.

10s at most likely f8 or f6.7 (manual 12mm Rokinon lens), ISO 2500, again was going for some flare and sparkles on the snow.
Frigid 16d Fahrenheit and dropping.
A Lot more aircraft overhead with the holidays in full swing than there was a few weeks ago.

I'm still learning to use the features of my Sony A7III
These are single exposure images but the light pollution of St. George helped with the light painting

Nice photos, I think the "light painting" worked great here. Out of curiosity, what lens was on the camera? I have an A7ii and I'm always curious what other outdoor photographers shoot with.

I just spent a couple minutes trying to figure out the stars above the mountain in the first photo. And, I can't figure them out. What direction were you facing? Is one of them a planet? I think the second photo has the east end of Leo (the triangle near the center). Am I right for that one?

thanks
I had the Sony 24-70mm lens on it, shot at 24mm, f2.8, and 20 seconds
I just bought a Sigma 14-24mm f2.8 lens today so I can't wait to shot with a wider lens in the future

That Sigma is on my list, but I'm getting the Sigma 100-400 first for this summer in Yellowstone. I'll look forward to seeing your photos with the 14-24 :)

Any idea on the stars in your photos?

I've been trying to do some astrophotography - such as it is.

I was trying to catch Jupiter, Mercury, and Saturn in the sky at the same time. Unfortunately Saturn had set by the time it was dark enough for me to spot the other two. Mercury is on the left. Taken from the top of a parking garage in Lincoln, NE

I had read in the paper that Uranus was visible not long ago and that it could be found near Mars. It would be the brightest star near Mars and have a blueish tint. The blue was more obvious in the view finder than in this picture.

Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn. Jupiter is the brightest round object. Three of it's moons are visible. They are the three brightest small dots near Jupiter. From upper left to lower right; Calisto, Io, and Europa. Saturn is the bright oval object to the upper right of Jupiter. There is a tiny dot just to the right of Saturn that I think might be Saturn's moon Titan. A plane happened to be flying by when I was taking the pictures. I could not see it with my eyes but it was clear in the viewfinder.

Not near as pretty as Yvonne's, but as I start to dig into this year's Yellowstone pics here is one of Old Faithful before sunrise. The Milky Way was modestly present to the left but there was just enough moonlight to wash it out.

Far behind processing night shots. But we have been watching Jupiter, Saturn and Venus perfectly aligned while camping and last week the moon was close by too and very bright. (We also saw Orion and a ton of meteors Friday early around 2-3am, those photos still to be processed.)
